Georgia Insurance Companies

Georgia has over 30 health insurance providers and several companies that sell insurance policies from these insurance providers.

The Georgia Department of Insurance maintains a list of all authorized insurance companies that can sell insurance plans from the 30 plus providers. You should buy insurance only from one of these authorized companies. Insurance companies in Georgia work with more than one insurance provider. These insurance companies act as the front end of the insurance provider. When you purchase your insurance, you are actually purchasing it from the insurance company that represents the insurance provider. The same is true when claims are processed. The insurance provider forwards the claims to your insurance company for processing and payment.

Here's a list of some of the major insurance companies in Georgia and the plans that they provide:

Atena: This plan is available in all counties and offers HMO plans, Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO, PPO and several other select and choice health plans.

Blue Cross Blue Shield: This plan is covered in several, but not all counties, and offers all the regular HMO and PPO based insurance products, apart from specific products such as Vision, Life, Disability, Employee Assistance Program and Flexible Spending Account.

Cigna: This plan offers coverage in all counties, and sells Medicare Advantage, Open Access, POS, PPO and other products apart from regular HMO and PPO products.

Coventry: This plan covers a few but not all counties, and sells HMO, POS, including Qualified High Deductible Health Plans, Medicare Advantage and PPO, including Qualified High Deductible Health Plans.

Humana: This plan covers all counties and sells HMO, POS, PPO, Medicare Advantage Products, Medicare PDP Products and Humana One.

Kaiser Permanente: This plan is not covered in all counties and offers only a few products such as HMO, DHMO, HDHP/HAS, POS and Medicare Advantage.

United Health Care: This plan is sold in all counties and offers products such as HMO, PPO, HAS, HRA, FSA, HDHP, Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement.
