Georgia Medical Insurance

The State of Georgia has several provisions of medical insurance for the public. There are group medical insurance policies that are usually offered by employers to their employees, and family policies that are covered under group policies. Apart from these, there are individual plans for those that are not eligible under group plans. There are several medical insurance policies for kids too.

A few of the medical insurance programs that are available in Georgia are detailed in this article.

PeachCare for Kids

PeachCare is Georgia's state Children's Health Insurance Program, which provides coverage for children under younger than 19 years. This policy is available for those children whose families meet specific income guidelines. This comprehensive medical health care program includes preventive, primary, specialist, vision care and dental care for uninsured kids. This medical insurance program also covers emergency room services, hospitalization, mental health care and prescription medications. Each child in the program is assigned to a Georgia Healthy Families Care Management Organization (CMO). This organization is responsible for coordinating the child's medical care.

Georgia Medicaid

Georgia Medicaid is a government medical insurance program that is designed to help the poor and underprivileged people. This policy helps these people to obtain health care services, which is otherwise not possible under other medical insurance schemes.

Pregnant women and children under 19 years are eligible for Medicaid coverage, provided they meet certain specific income criteria. The same applies for blind, disabled individuals and senior citizens.

This program provides health coverage to low-income Georgia residents, and legal residents who are not US citizens. People who are not legally in the US cannot avail of medical insurance via Medicaid. Categories, Medicaid eligibility is based on total annual household income, taking some assets and expenses into account.

Health Insurance Continuation Program

HICP was designed to help people who find it difficult to pay health insurance premiums after their COBRA coverage comes to an end. HICP provides insurance plans that include both coverage for prescription drugs and primary outpatient care without an annual cap. Maximum monthly premium payments do not exceed $1100 per month for a family. This medical insurance program accepts individuals who are HIV/AIDS positive as well. This program accepts people that are not eligible for Medicaid.
